Nutrient acquisition is at the core of plant growth and productivity, depending on effective uptake and transport of necessary minerals. Mechanisms of nutrient acquisition, such as root transporters, ion channels, and symbiotic relations with microbes, will be emphasized in this session. The macronutrients nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and micronutrients iron and zinc will be addressed by experts. Case studies will explore how plants respond to nutrient-limited soils and maximize uptake efficiency. Technological developments in biofertilizers, nanofertilizers, and precision nutrient application will be presented as the green alternatives to chemical fertilizers. Attendees will also learn about nutrient-use efficiency breeding and its contribution towards minimizing the environmental footprint.
